Trustee Opportunities at Boingboing Foundation

Boingboing Foundation is seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the next stage of our development. We are a charity rooted in co‑production, co‑research and social justice, working alongside communities who experience systemic disadvantage to challenge inequalities and create meaningful systems change.

We are especially keen to welcome applications from young trustees (aged 30 and under) and people from minoritised or marginalised communities, reflecting our commitment to diverse representation at all levels of the organisation.

About the Role

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring the charity is well‑governed, financially sound, and true to its mission. Trustees act collectively and share equal responsibility for the strategic direction and oversight of the organisation.

We are looking for people who can bring insight, challenge and support across one or more of the following portfolio areas:

  • Finance – supporting financial governance and oversight

  • Governance & Legal – ensuring compliance and strong governance practice

  • Human Resources – supporting fair, effective and lawful HR processes

  • Communications & Knowledge Exchange – championing co‑created outputs and amplifying our work

You do not need to have been a trustee before what matters most is your commitment to our mission, your willingness to learn, and your ability to contribute your skills and experience.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome people who:

  • Are committed to Boingboing’s mission, values and culture

  • Are willing to “stand up for difference and practice which includes”

  • Can devote the necessary time and energy to the role

  • Act with integrity and are confident speaking up

  • Work well as part of a team and make decisions for the good of the charity

Trustees are expected to:

  • Complete an induction

  • Attend bi‑monthly online Board meetings (typically 8–10am, first Wednesday of April, June, August, October, December, February)

  • Serve a minimum three‑year term (up to three terms)

  • Engage with governance training and development opportunities

  • Read Board papers and stay connected with organisational updates

What You’ll Gain

As a Trustee, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to trailblazing community research and practice centered on co‑production, co‑research and activism

  • See the direct impact of your involvement on individuals and systems

  • Work with a passionate, values‑driven team

  • Use your skills and experience to influence positive change

  • Access training and development to support your role
