‘Recently, I was able to take part in MHFA England mental health first aid course. I was there to become a certified Mental Health First Aider. I feel very lucky to have had this experience as I learnt so much. We learnt so much about mental health and how to create a healthy support in the workplace, not only that, but how to care for yourself whilst supporting someone. At the beginning of the course we did conversation practice, exploring how you would handle someone coming to you with a mental health struggle. I initially wasn't very confident with this, but after everything I had learnt by Tuesday afternoon, I felt very comfortable being part of that conversation. I appreciated the resources we were given like having the ALGEE action plan on a lanyard and some great apps such as the Hub of Hope. I also enjoyed that Gavin who delivered the training took his time so everyone understood the topics and he made regular checks to make sure everyone was feeling ok.’
