About BBF

From Boingboing CIC’s ground breaking social justice-led resilience research and practice, we know that someone’s likelihood of being healthy, well and resilient is largely shaped by their environment rather than simply any inner trait. When we are considering how to improve the resilience of our communities we must look beyond fixing individual circumstances, and towards systems change to more fairly distribute resources, opportunities, rights, power, freedom from discrimination and so on.

Led at all times by our ‘co-production for change’ principles, Boingboing Foundation facilitates co-research and campaigning for socially just systems change – including education, housing, accessibility, and the environment.

We do this by scaffolding, upskilling and advocating for marginalised people (primarily young people), who often face many barriers to genuine participation in research and activism spaces, but whom are best placed to inform this work and for whom change is most vital.

Our home

We are based in Blackpool and focus much of our work in and around the Fylde Coast. This area sits at the sharp end of health and wealth inequalities in the UK, as a place with high levels of deprivation and barriers to thriving. Blackpool is also a place that is trailblazing the embedding of co-productive methods into its public sector and community services, and is at the forefront of using effective and ethical participatory research methods with the community to improve outcomes. This makes it the perfect place to start for the Foundation, and we hope to share the expertise being developed here in Blackpool far and wide.

Our team is largely made up of local people who use our lived expertise of systemic disadvantage and local issues for effective change making.
