International Women’s Day Event and Careers Fair at Blackpool Sixth Form

Careers Fair

Co-researcher Keira reflects on the Careers Fair at Blackpool Sixth Form College:

Blackpool Researching Together Stand

The event was for Blackpool students in year 9 who are exploring their qualification options and Blackpool Sixth Form students. There were various companies and organisations, to support exploring possible future career aspects. This included organisations such as: Healthwatch, Sustainable Talent and MSI: reproductive health choices UK. There was an activity where each organisation got to pick 1-2 keywords to represent their work, and year 9-10 students were encouraged to come up to the tables, and ask how those words represent the work that they do, we chose two words: 'relationship building' and 'Initiative'. I found it important to speak with students about research as it's something students don't always know is an accessible career for them. My favourite part of the day was being able to speak with students, and talking to other organisations about what they do.

International Women’s Day Event

Co-researcher Kelsey reflects on her involvement:

Earlier this month, I got to take part in International Women’s Day at Blackpool Sixth Form. We were there to present a slideshow about Women in Research, Lived Experience, my pathway into becoming a co-researcher and the importance of research. We got to present to small groups of girls in year 9 from different high schools across Blackpool. I found it really important speaking to the girls at this age, as they are soon to make their choices for GCSEs. I got to hear some great talks throughout the day from inspiring women. I initially thought I would find it difficult to present, but the small groups were a perfect size to answer questions and have conversations. I especially enjoyed speaking to the girls about their views on research and Lived Experience. They had a great idea of what it was and some girls had even been involved in some Seed Funding projects.
